I´ve seen various reports in the Spanish and English media during the last few weeks, headlining that “Spain continues to be the top country for Brits behaving badly, with drink and drugs contributing to the problems of over 5,000 people who needed consular help in Spain during the last 12 months”.
These headlines (and these figures) should be given some sort of perspective….and I´m just the man to provide it!

I´ve just spent a very interesting few days looking at properties on the Costa Blanca. I stayed in the La Zenia area, as I wanted to take a look at some properties in Cabo Roig and Playa Flamenca.
A colleague who is based in the area kindly took me out for a bite to eat on my first night, and we ended up in a very bizarre place.

Summer has arrived, and I´m loving living in Spain again.
Isn´t it amazing how we are so easily influenced by the climate. We´ve just had the worst winter in Spain for 30 years, and it looks like Spring has completely passed us by. I remember this from previous years here on the Costa del Sol – lousy winter, but as soon as easter has come and gone, summer starts.

The Spanish economy has always been awash with ´black money´ - undeclared funds that sit under people´s mattresses or in safety deposit vaults.
This undeclared cash normally enters the system as the proceeds of Spanish property transactions. To avoid the capital gains tax on Spanish property of 18% (formerly 35% for non-residents), many Spanish residents preferred to accept part of the property price in the form of cash under the table. When you bear in mind the effect on Spanish property prices during the boom of recent years, this non-declaration of income saved the Spanish people the equivalent of millions of euros (if not billions) in unpaid taxes.
