Just a few words of warning for those of you looking to rent a property in Spain on a long-term basis.

Good friends of mine recently moved out of an apartment in Marbella after problems with the property. Basically, there was a major issue with damp in the property after the winter rain, and the landlord took 2 weeks to acknowledge the issue. Although the master bedroom was (in the tenants´ opinion) inhabitable, the landlord was supposedly within his rights to take reasonable time and reasonable measures to correct the problem. In the end, my friends became so disheartened sleeping in a damp bed each night that they cut their losses and ended their tenancy prematurely, waving goodbye to 3 weeks rental money (around 800 euros) that they had already paid up-front and that the landlord was reluctant to reimburse.
