Still Waiting for Winter on the Costa del Sol    British Arrivals Up 7% On Lanzarote

So maybe we had been having things too good after all, but winter finally arrived on the Costa del Sol in the 3rd week of December.

Coastal resorts and inland areas in Andalucia were hit by torrential rain, thunderstorms and howling gales during a 3 week period which lasted all over the Christmas and New Year periods, bringing misery and travel chaos to many areas. My property in Marbella didn´t escape the rainfall, with leaks from the terraces and various windows causing dripping ceilings in the dining room – needless to say, the location for Christmas dinner was changed!

To be truthful, the weather here in Spain has been utterly miserable. I´ve been here for 8 years and I´ve never witnessed such prolonged and heavy rainfall in all that time – it just didn´t seem to want to let up! Night after night of lashing rain and powerful claps of thunder. I was tempted to just jump on a plane for the UK until I realised that I wouldn´t have been able to land at the other end after all the heavy snowfall in England.

I can tell you that many families here in Southern Spain were left tearing their hair out – cooped up all over Christmas with nowhere to go and nothing to do.

At least the worst now seems to be behind us, the sky is blue again, and people have once again taken to the promenade for nice long walks in the relatively mild temperatures of around 16 degrees.

Roll on summer! Can´t wait!
