Winter Arrives on the Costa del Sol
                                                           a

Winter finally arrived on the Costa del Sol last week.

After a period of mild weather, temperatures plummeted and snow fell on some of the higher ground. If you drive from Puerto Banus to Malaga, you will see a dusting of snow on the Serrania de Ronda and La Cruz Juanar. The emblematic peak of La Concha that protects the properties in Marbella from the harsh northerly winds has not yet surrendered to the snowfall, but perhaps it won´t be spared for much longer.
As you approach Malaga, you can see the snowy landscape of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in the distance – a true spectacle in the same vista as the blue Mediterranean. In fact, many skiers who had hoped to take to the slopes in Granada last week decided to avoid them after severe weather warnings, although the snowfall means that a full season of skiing is expected in the resort.

Of course, when I refer to winter arriving on the Costa del Sol, everything is relative. As I look out of my patio doors, I can see clear blue skies and the temperature is 13 degrees – a little chilly, but I don´t think I´ll be needing to clear the frost off my car windscreen any time soon! In afact, in the 10 years since I have lived in my Costa del Sol property, I haven´t seen a flake of snow fall on the coastal areas.
