After 3 months of heavy rain and storms in Andalucia the clear-up operation has begun amid frantic efforts to restore the Costa del Sol to some semblance of normality in time for the Easter period.
The Junta de Andalucia has said that the rain ´has been of a persistence and intensity unknown in the region´ with some areas seeing more than double the average rainfall for an entire year during the last few months.
427,000 hectares of farming land has been damaged, with the olive crops in particular being severely affected. In addition, the famous beaches of the Costa del Sol have also taken a battering, to such an extent that the area has received €80 million of aid from Central Government in order to repair the damage in time for Easter.
As for now, the sun is shining, it´s 20 degrees and the clean-up has started!
