Star-spotting at La Manga Club

I´ve just spent a few days at the famous La Manga Club Resort. Perhaps the most famous golf and leisure resort in Europe, La Manga has a track record of 30 years and was previously owned by P&O prior to Med Group´s current ownership. It is without doubt the Spanish golf resort that Polaris World and all the others try to emulate.

With 3 eighteen hole golf courses and a large tennis academy on site, La Manga is also home to a variety of bars and restaurants, as well as a fabulous spa, gymnasium and even its very own beach.
The flagship of La Manga Club is its 5 star Hyatt Hotel. Situated in the heart of the resort, the hotel underwent a refurbishment earlier this year, and now boasts an opulent lobby and sumptuous cocktail bar, home to a fabulous pianist every night from Monday to Friday.

Every time I stay at La Manga, I spot a few celebrities. Last year, I spent a riotous evening in the company of a gang of ex-footballers and comedians, ending in a sing-along around said piano. The last time I was there I literally bumped in to Hollywood actor Matt Damon, staying at the resort while shooting the movie The Green Zone. And during this stay, I spotted Pat Jennings and Bruce Grobbelaar, both former international goalkeepers. Not quite sure that all this celebrity justifies a glass of lager being sold for 4 euros, but never mind that!

I stayed in the Las Lomas apartments, the self-catering section of the Hyatt. My studio suite was perfectly adequate, with its own kitchen, bathroom, sitting and dining area, comfy double bed, sky tv – the works….and all for 80 euros a night.

Highly recommended
