SKY tv in Spain – a necessary evil?

I relocated to my property on the Costa Blanca in the autumn of 2000, a blessed relief from my life of hard work and stress in the UK.

I had the property in Spain, the perfect climate, the beach at my doorstep and no bad news to depress me from the UK. I had specifically chosen to avoid all the misery of the UK media, so vowed to live my life in Spain as I meant it to continue – no British newspapers and no British tv.
I was in a bar just around the corner from my Costa Blanca property one morning about 12 months after my move to Spain. As I was enjoying my late breakfast, I noticed a crowd of Spaniards around the small tv in the corner of the bar. I took a look to see what was drawing their attention and could only make out what looked like a building being demolished.

Not until later when I received a call from the UK did I realise that I had witnessed the collapse of the World Trade Centre after the bombings of 9/11.

I was desperate for news…..in English! The world was changing, and I didn´t have a clue what was happening.

48 hours later, I had my ideal Spanish property, the perfect climate, the beach at my doorstep…..and Sky tv for £31 per month.
