Most people know of the influence and presence of the Saudi Royal Family on the Costa del Sol. Much of the land around the Golden Mile in Marbella is Saudi-owned, and indeed the spectacular Nahda Palace built by King Fahd resembles Washington´s White House.

Interestingly, the Saudi Royals have just signed a deal to develop a 60 hectare plot of land in the Arroyo del Saladillo area of Estepona, Marbella´s neighbouring district. The family have owned this land since 1978, and had initially planned to build their palace on the site. Now they have decided to develop the land, with plans to build 1,400 residential units and a top class golf course, with work scheduled to commence next year.

Not much is known of the exact detail of the plans, but it is estimated that 1,000 jobs will be created as a result, and the Town Hall of Estepona will be the recipients of 8 million euros….much needed cash in this current climate.
