Some more good news for buyers of property for sale in Murcia. Following the recent announcement of the go-ahead of the Paramount Pictures theme park in the region, the new Murcia Airport in Corvera is set to be complete later this year and open to the public in mid 2012.

A study by the University of Murcia found that 40% of passengers taking scheduled flights from Alicante Airport (over 100 kilometres away from Corvera) are actually from the region of Murcia. With these figures in mind, Murcia´s Ministry of Development expects to be able to ´steal´ 3 million of the 10 million passengers who currently use the airport at Alicante but who would undoubtedly find that Corvera would be much closer and more convenient for them.Of course, all of this is useless unless the new airport is able to attract the major airlines to Murcia, and this is where the good news continues, with Iberia and Spanair already expresing strong interest in operating from Corvera.

Buyers of properties in the Costa Calida heard all the promises of theme parks and new airports when they invested in off-plan resorts such as Roda Golf, La Torre Golf, Hacienda Riquelme and Hacienda del Alamo. Now it seems those grand plans actually carried some real weight.
