Ever wondered why those Spanish holiday hangovers are worse than the usual ones that you get at home? It´s probably due to the measures that are poured by the bartender.
Everywhere in Spain, from the popular coastal areas such as the Costa del Sol and the Costa Blanca to the more remote inland villages, if you ask for a gin and tonic, the likelihood is that the bartender will start to fill your glass until YOU tell them to stop!
Of course, for people new to Spain, or perhaps those who have bought a property in Spain to permanently relocate, this is great! Particularly when you compare the measures of alcohol to those dished out in the UK.
But the generosity of the Spanish can lead to problems. I had a few vodkas at the beautiful Marbella Club Hotel on Saturday night, and woke up with a sore head on Sunday. Wondering why just 3 drinks had provoked the symptoms, I soon realized that I´d probably drunk the equivalent of 9 or 10 single measures of vodka.
Of course, it´s great to think that you are getting extra for your money – we all love good value - but just go steady!
