Three Kings Procession - what a spectacle!    The Sales have started in Spain - it´s OFFICIAL
3 Kings Day - The Alternative in Gibraltar

The thought of yet another public holiday in Spain on 6th January was seriously starting to depress me – no shops open, too cold to sunbathe, fed up of seeing my family for what feels like the 50th time in the last 2 weeks, too fat for another long lunch with friends.

What should I do?

I know, I´ll go to Gibraltar!

I made sure I checked my facts as Gibraltar is a strange place. Where else boasts proper British bobbies, traffic lights, road signs, a Morrisons supermarket and cheap fags, yet driving on the right hand side of the road, and all within 45 minutes of Marbella?Anyway, I discovered that the 6th January is a normal working day in Gibraltar, so off I toddled along the deserted autopista from Marbella, through the deserted border checkpoint (it was so quiet that I mistakenly ended up in the GOODS TO DECLARE lane as for once there was no traffic in front of me for me to lazily follow!).

The purpose of my visit was to stock up on Anadin Extra Soluble – I know, how sad am I, but nothing else cures all known illnesses in quite the same way, and there´s nothing like it in Spanish pharmacies – seriously, try asking for paracetamol, aspirin and caffeine in the same medicine, and the pharmacist is likely to give you 2 separate tablets and a large expresso!

Of course, nothing in life is that simple, and so £166.17 later (!!), I emerged from Morrisons Gibraltar as the very proud owner of all sorts of useful items such as microwaveable chicken pasta bake, thin and crusty pepperoni pizzas (fresh and only 99p each!), Green & Black butterscotch chocolate and a giant pack of Cheerios (the oat variety of course to avoid any repetition of my IBS – you didn´t need to know that, did you?!)

I think I overspent because of the exchange rate –  why buy one tub of Ben & Jerrys ice cream at £3, when you can buy six – after all, they´re only ´really´ costing €3.09 – a bargain!

Just a shame I can´t fit them in my freezer.

Will Christmas in Spain please end….soon?

Try frenadol, it’s only you who doesn’t know how to ask, not the Pharmacist…
